Grail Trophies and Cosmetics
Win runs, spend cups. Characters first, card backs last.
Trophies are Grail’s meta currency. They drop from winning games and spend on character unlocks and cosmetics chests. They are not MMR. They do not fill pips. Demo players already complained that chests unlock slowly relative to the number of card backs and alt arts. 1.0 did not delete the gate; it added Mabel at 200 trophies and kept chests in the 40-trophy row. This page is the spend sheet. Pair it with the characters hub.
How you earn trophies
Finish runs. Six player-battle wins is a complete run. Losses still teach, but the cup icon on the overworld moves when you win. Do not expect a daily login code. Grail is a paid Steam game. There is no redeem-code page on this wiki because none exists.
The cup count sits next to gold on the map. Treat it like gold you cannot spend mid-fight. You pick a character on the select screen between runs. You cannot swap Ratagnan for Mabel in the middle of a river day.
Spend order that does not waste cups
- Mabel at 200 if you want food, cheese, carrots, and over-heal. Confirm the banner on character select before you tap Play.
- Zappy when his price appears on the arrows and you already understand pips. Gadgets are a worse first puzzle than bleed chip. Character tier list.
- Chests at 40 for card backs, alt art, and the Ratagnan skin. Demo-season rows in the trailer sit at 40 each. Cosmetics do not change combat.
- Nothing, if you are still failing getting started. Cups in a chest will not fill Jab.
Reversing that order is how you own alt art and still die to unfilled 3-pips.
Demo carryover
Sokpop said demo-exclusive cosmetics carry into the full game. Ratagnan skins, card backs, and alt art you earned in app 4537510 should still be in the chest row. Characters you did not have in the demo — Mabel, Zappy — still cost trophies in 1.0. Launch day is the store sheet. Do not expect demo trophy counts to skip the 200-Mabel banner; if they do, that is a pleasant surprise, not a plan.
Demo comments called the grind real: many cosmetic slots, slow unlocks, one chest after multiple runs. That matches a 40-trophy price against a six-win timer. If you hate meta-progress, live on Ratagnan forever. That is allowed. The review says the same.
What trophies are not
They are not a ladder rank. Beating a snapshot does not raise a hidden ELO that then spends cups. They are not a way to buy cards into the pool. Shops still use the hero you selected. They are not Steam achievements (there are 23 of those separately). They are not a second energy pool.
Cardopedia alt art and lore
1.0 added filters for rarity, lore, and alt art, plus a traits tab. Opponent cards no longer unlock in your cardopedia just because you fought them. You earn names by playing the cards. Alt art is a trophy/chest sink. Lore entries unlock by winning with different cards — that hunt is lore and the Grail, not a chest.
Mid-run discipline
Do not open a 40-trophy chest because you are tilted after a PvP loss. The next node is a sell or a heal, not a card back. Do not delay a six-win attempt to farm cups. Play the engine. Cups arrive as a side effect.
If you are one chest short of a skin you want, finish the run you are in. Trophy spend is a menu, not a map node. Controls if you cannot find the chest row.
After you unlock a hero
Open that hero’s page, then the matching starter builds row, then the run planner. A new pool with old habits is how Mabel players buy rapiers. Spend cups, then spend attention.
The trailer on this page is the official September date announcement. Watch it for the mood of cosmetics and the three-hero promise. Then go win a Ratagnan run before you tap 200.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How many trophies does Mabel cost?
200 on the character select banner in launch footage. Earn them by winning runs.
Do demo cosmetics carry into 1.0?
Sokpop said demo-exclusive cosmetics carry over. Mabel and Zappy still cost trophies.
Do chests change combat?
No. 40-trophy chests buy looks: card backs, alt art, skins. Pips do not care.
Is there a Grail codes page?
No. It is a paid Steam game. Trophies come from play, not redeem codes.
Should I buy chests before Mabel?
No, unless you have already decided to main Ratagnan forever.
